Are You Man Enough?
For me, a writing project is a personal journey.
No matter how well you may plan the literary adventure in advance, you’ll still have surprises, take unexpected side-trips, run into roadblocks, and make mistakes. You may even recognize failure in the overall scheme of things. You’ll have good days and bad days. Sometimes, the road ahead is uneventful and enjoyable, and brings a huge smile upon your face. Still, you’ll have some rough moments when the path is rocky, uncertain, difficult to navigate, treacherous, and discouraging. If it gets really bad, you won’t move forward at all, and think heavily of throwing in the towel and giving up.
If you survive the pitfalls, the blunders, the periods of dark clouds and stormy weather, you may just reach the completion of a writing project, after all. Yes, you’ll be tired and exhausted. Still, you’ll have a tremendous sense of accomplishment and the satisfaction of a job well done.
But let’s not kid ourselves about it…. Writing is hard work. Oh, it can be a helluva lotta fun, all right! But even when it’s fun, the writing process can and usually will leave you exhilarated and exhausted at the end of the day. And let’s face it; if the business of writing isn’t at times difficult and trying, would the final result really be worth a damn?
Here are brief summaries of my published works, along with the personal journeys, difficulties, and experiences of creating them. I’m very interested in motivations and events which ignited the sparks needed to begin writing in the first place. It’s my hope to inspire those of you who wish to write to get up off your butts and make it happen!
The greatest obstacles in writing may very well be ourselves. Please, please get out of the way and free yourself to write, write, write! And then write some more! You owe such gifts to yourself.
